October – Pit Bull Awareness Month!
Educating ourselves about pitbull genetics is crucial in understanding these dogs beyond stereotypes.Their genetics influence traits like temperament, energy, and behavior.By studying their lineage, we can better appreciate their loyalty and potential as family pets. This knowledge also aids in responsible ownership and breeding practices, promoting a positive image of pitbulls and helping to combat misconceptions.Awareness and education pave the way for a deeper understanding of these loving companions. Staying Safe Around Pit Bulls
We understand your concern! In the context of Pit Bulls and other breeds, the community’s responsibility in keeping themselves safe includes: 1. Education: Learn about breed characteristics, body language, and behavior to recognize potential signs of aggression. 2. Responsible pet ownership: Ensure proper training, socialization, and containment of dogs to prevent escapes or attacks. 3. Spaying/Neutering: Altering pets can reduce aggression and prevent unwanted litters that may contribute to the development of aggressive traits. 4. Reporting incidents: Inform your municipality about any dog-related incidents or concerns to address potential threats before they escalate. 5. Supporting breed-neutral legislation: Advocate for laws focusing on responsible pet ownership and animal behavior, rather than targeting specific breeds. 6. Promoting positive reinforcement training: Encourage training methods that emphasize reward-based learning, rather than punitive approaches that can exacerbate aggression. 7. Community outreach and awareness: Organize initiatives to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership, animal behavior, and the importance of spaying/neutering. 8. Supporting rehoming and rehabilitation efforts: Encourage and support efforts to rehome and rehabilitate dogs that have developed aggressive behaviors, rather than simply euthanizing them. By working together, we can create a safer and more compassionate community for both humans and animals. Please join the PBFSA in the fight for the breed. BE A RESPONSIBLE PIT BULL OWNER

Why microchip my dog?
Microchipping your dog is a reliable way to ensure their identification and increase the chances of them being returned to you if they ever get lost. It’s a simple procedure that can provide peace of mind knowing that your furry friend has a permanent form of identification. Microchip identification is a legally recognised proof of ownership. Keeping the microchip information up-to-date with your contact details strengthens your legal claim to ownership if any dispute arises.
PBFSA is busy with ongoing Educational Outreaches
Partnering with us for Educational Material is Hero-in-My-Hood: “Empathy leads to Compassion” “Pit Bull educational material now in Sepedi – Imagine receiving your primary education in a second language: so much information is lost when children are not taught in their your mother tongue. Hero aims to be as inclusive as possible, which is why much of our humane educational material is available in SEVEN South African languages. Hopefully we can add yet another, Tshivenda, by year end. The Pit Bull Federation of SA approached us for some educational material for a up-coming educational event in Gauteng. The children at the host school speak predominately isiZulu and Sepedi. Our Pit Bull brochure and poster had been translated into Afrikaans, isiXhosa, Sesotho and isiZulu. Luckily, we managed to get a Sepedi translation done, and made it to the printer, and the event, in record time!” We have also had the Five Freedoms, Animals have feelings, and Lucky’s pet care posters translated into Sepedi. These will be up on our website soon.” THANK YOU! & A big shout out to Hero-in-My-Hood for this educational material!! www/hero-in-my-hood/pit-bull-education/ If you want to get involved with these PBFSA EDUCATIONAL OUTREACHES contact us!
National Pet Day!!
Happy National Pet Day to all the adorable companions who fill our lives with love, joy and endless cuddles!
Dog Bite Prevention Week 2024!!!
When one considers the numbers of APBT dogs with behavioural problems including aggression and unruly behaviour we ask our self? Were did it go wrong. Dog’s that has bitten or mauled a person: What is even more disturbing is that the waste majority of these attacks are by family pet dogs!! In their own home! Most of these incidents could have been avoided and prevented and it could be said that most, was the owner’s fault. The kind of relationship, or lack thereof, can also be added to the case. The ignorant owners, whose pet dogs would be more likely to attack are: All these kinds of dogs are all potential “attack “dogs.
Rabies – Attention all dog owners
It’s crucial to be aware of the dangers of rabies. Rabies is a deadly virus that can affect both animals and humans. Make sure your dog is up-to-date on their rabies vaccinations and avoid contact with wildlife that may carry the virus. Any unusual behaviour in your pet should be taken seriously and reported to a veterinarian immediately. Protect your furry friend and yourself by staying vigilant against rabies. Stay Safe!
